Recently I read on Jyothi's blog..is everyone happy?..good question! Could we ever be happy forever?..Happiness is a very momentary feeling and whenever someone does something in accordance with our feelings we are happy. But all the time happy....quite a difficult task, as all the time we cant expect the world to behave to our liking..
But we can be at peace all the time if we detach ourselves a little with the results. We may do our duty and the right thing and then stop worrying about the results. Many people keep advising me that now that i have fulfilled my duties in life, I must live Bindaas, not worry about others and say and do what I like. And i shouldnt at all think about people younger to me but say the right thing. But that is not possible in a civilised society. We can never do anything if it might hurt others.Saying the right thing is also useful only if it makes any difference in a positive way.But then any relationship which cants sustain the truth or has no tolerance is not worth keeping also. And older people have more responsibilities in keeping the decorum and being kind, I dont like old people to be selfish, or manipulative or unkind as I feel that if not whole life, but now when we are so near to god, we can leave aside worldly temptations and may try to be a little saintly.we have enjoyed the life and done everything, now just be good.
I see so many people who try to show off as if they are the only good people and they do only good, but show them the mirror, they cant stand it.Truth is never easy to face, never easy to understand.
So many times I think that we must divide the life into phases and there must be a fixed time for shouldering the responsibilities and for living free of obligations. According to me..
From birth to 20 years..this time should be fully devoted to education, children shouldnt be given any responsibilities.big or small, instead this time should be spent in building health, character and education only.
From 20-40..is time to indulge, make careers, and families and enjoy.and do whatevr you want to do with your life, build it in your own way.
40-60..This is the time for responsibilities, towards your family,,including parents, and society.
After 60..one must live.Bindaas...without any responsibility..neither of parents, nor children, do everything as you like, without any pressure.Because I feel, that atleast some time should be in life when you can live as an individual, in your own way..it is a dream for me.

Renu, I love the way you write.Like yo say there must be some time for people to enjoy life for themselves.
Well I think why should one wait till 60? One can maintain his/her individuality and live according to his/her terms in any phase of life.I also think responsibility cannot be set aside as long as we are living it will show up and we have to do what we are supposed to do.I believe in karma.:)
Check this out for fun !
What's Your True Age?
Are you as old as you feel or as what the calendar says?

I think you have defined the timelines and the duties and responsibilities that come with age in a brilliant way :)
I think we should always live life as an individual, at any age. And its never too late to start. :)

Very well written post, Renu! If we can follow what is written here, step by step, life will be bliss.
I am nearing 60, will I be able to live life without any responsibility? I don't know!
I have come to realize that happiness really comes from within. I have decided to be happy irrespective of my circumstances. I am making a conscious attempt to stay happy even if things don't work my way. I have come to realize that only I am responsible for my happiness. I do things that make me happy - like making chocolates, candles, reading, writing, blogging, etc. I do things that make mom and dad happy. I spend time with people who love me for who I am.
Well said, but then i also agree with the comments above that individuality should not be lost at any age or cost.
Like the blog template too... its so clutter free!
The four ashrams [stages of life] in our tradition are somewhat like what you have written in this post.
I think we should be able to live life as individuals in any stage of life. But we can never be completely independent, because even if free of responsibility for children etc., we still are members of society. And we have to avoid doing anything that may cause harm to others in society.
a good post on 'happiness' as a topic
live bindaas - any age :)
a god post on 'happiness'
live bindaas - any age :)
Nice post and good philosophy. But it is difficult to classify life into the specific age groups as done by you. It varies wildly from person to person and their individual circumstances. For example I am 62 yrs but still have my aged parents to take care of (father 96,mother 89). On being Bindaas it is a way of life and attitude and has nothing to do with age. For eg I was Bindaas 30 yrs back and I still continue to be Bindaas without shirking any of the worldly/family responsibilities :)
Namaste....
I believe that happiness is a choice, it doesn't just happens because you wish it, one has to choose to be happy.
I wrote something on this a while ago called HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE http://rappingonamelody.blogspot.com/2009/05/happiness-is-choice.html, when you are next online, have a read and let me know what you think.
Take care, stay blessed and thanks for sharing.

yes its good idea to divide life
all the time happy is difficult task.
after a long time Renu I am back . Well said about the timeline ! But I think it should change somewhere. People getting hypertension at the the age of 30 or so ways to change must be sought .

I'm just biding my time. I always tell people....dont look at life after 60 like its all over....infact LIFE is just beginning;-D.
Chitra; Thank u Chitra..not some time..but all the time at some point in life:)
Sherlyn;.One can maintain an individuality today, but responsibilities could end , if we designed our life and thoughts like that...
I couldnt chk this link as they ask to sign in and I dont like to do that.
Purvi: Thanks Purvi..I want it to happen that way:)
Jyothi:But family compulsions nevr let anyone do that...not possible atleast for me:(
Sandhya: atleast try:)..with us, others connected to us are also needed to think that way.
Swats: good thoughts Swati!and better if one can manage that, but in life so many times you have to live with the people whom either you dont like or they dont likeyou...
Amrita: Thanks Amrita!...
Actually there are so many undercurrents..individually or living for self...its all very difficult...
Manju: I nevr need freedom from a righteous path or morality..but freedom from expectations....we could have that, but for that we need a change in the mentality of all people around us.
Sujatha : Thanks:)
R ramakrishnan:..I think we must srtucture our life in such a way that we dont have any major resposibility..like if parents live long enopugh, they can be provided with everything but free of expectations, whatevr we can do should be good enough, and whatevr we cant be accepted without any binding.
RhapsodyB; going to read your post now:)..
sm:evrything is so difficult:)
Tara:Happy to see you back! we must treasure health more than anything..
Reflections:..its not like that..but I wish it was like that:)
