END OF MY TRIP TO CANADA..niagra falls and Montreal

I saw many things in Ottawa..like Museum of Civilastion...its a beautiful place to see and there in Imax all the time documentaries are shown, My BIL very much wanted me to see one, but unfortunately english show didnt coincide with our plan. Actually there french is more common, even in Zurich, many office bearer say that here first it is German, then French, then Italian and then if needed some Spanish, but no English, why should they know and speak English.....Isnt it surprising for us Indians who think that English is the language of the world:).
And then we went for Parliament tour, imagin me, being an Indian havent ever been to Indian parliament.....here evrything is commercialised, why dont we do the same in India..but frankly these tours are free and their Library is most amazing and beautiful, but they dont allow to take photographs. Roofs there have the pictures of different things, sometimes countries symbols or agricultural. We were shown house of commons and all that.
We saw Governor house from outside..tours are run for that also.
Rideau Falls is like a mini Niagra and a mall is also named Rideau Centre. Over the river , there is a road, and whenever a boat with a higher clearance crosses that part, the whoe road is shifted and a passage is made for that and till such time, traffic is stopped on both the sides.
On Canada day..we went to downtown and it was a sight to be seen...never before I have seen so many people at one place and most of them in red and white the color of Canadian flag, with tattoes everywhere of either maple leaf or flag.
Then we went to Montreal and I fell in love with this place..this is in Canada, but with totally a french ambiance....first we went to St. Joseph church modelled on Sacrecoeur of Paris, then notre dame(same as in Paris)..St. Catherine is the most popular street here with restaurants from all over the world, we had our Lebanese lunch at Basha..it was good. Harbour place is like downtown brimming with people enjoying cafe's and skectching. Here I saw some very small narrow lanes, bylanes all full of jwellery shops
Out of the three places ..Zurich, Seattle and Ottawa...Zurich is the most beautiful place, but it is very very expensive, one can get a coffee for 1-2 $ max. in Canada and US, but here it costs 5-6$. Canada offers beautiful scenery and good food for us Indians and reasonable merchandise. In Niagra souvenirs were very reasonably priced.US also has everything but differs place to place.

Nice to see your post after a long time.

Like our railway gate, they have boatway gate?!! So English language is not important there. That is why lot of youngsters are learning German here, I think. If we go to Seattle, we have to stop drinking coffee!

Interesting post, Renu. Waiting for the photos!

Yes English is not favourite language in many countries including some of the commonwealth nations who were earlier ruled by the British.

Our security concerns are preventing us to have the conducted tours to the places like Parliament, and Rashtrapati Bhawan

Thanks for sharing your experiences abroad. Now let's have the pics.

Smitha: This time I have been to so many places that sometimes its difficult to remember, unless i blog immediately which I never do:)

Sandhya: you got it right:) they have a boat gate:)
In Seattle , drink as much coffee as you want at Starbucks, its good and reasonable, its only in Zurich that it is expensive..but here everything is expensive, so we cant stop eating, but it pinches.

Rush: My take is that Canada is a very comfortable place to live :)

Deeps: hey i am back in Zurich with my son:).

Indyeah: photos will come..all at a go:)

Balvinder; One thing we must learn from the west..how to earn money,,they merchandise each and everything over there, in India w have a treasure of beauty in places, but nothing explored or made touristic.
In Canada , I met one person whose brother is in army and he told us many fascinating stories, I will share them one day:)

Shruti Sriharsha: I am sure if you visit Canada you wouldnt be dissappointed...will be back by end of August:)

Piper: yeah:) I love meting people, watching different cultures:)

Zurich definitely is a beautiful city, but only the high street I would see.
Bahnof Strasse is the most beautiful high street I have seen. Much better than those of Paris (Champs Elysees) and London (Oxford Street).
And yes, Zurich IS SOOOOO expensive!!

I was told, Canada is the best place to tour out of all the countries ...your blog also seems to subscribe to this view...

REBEL: Have you done your trip to Zurich?
I saw Oxford street and Champelisses..30 yrs back, and Oxford street is likre any other street with high brand shops..so nothing much, whereas Champ.. is aa historical place like our India gate but Banhofstrasse is a real high street with lots of glamour and people:)

Sunder: Yes I find Canada a very people and pocket friendly place:)

Ah, lotsa places. Where r the pics? So, where to now?

Jiggy said...

Yes, have already been to Zurich. I agree that Oxford street and Champs Elysees do not carry the glamour of a proper high street (like Bahnof Strasse does). Infact, even in terms of people, the Swiss are a million times better looking than the French.

Kanupriya: :) ...Now I am just thinking of going to some local places only:)

REBEL :Banhofstrasse may be a little similar to manhattan, but yes I have seen here the most well dressed people on the street actually its the main charm here thta whenever you roam around you see everything glamorous:) and people in general are very good looking.
