Media and its priority

I am very saddened to see the news in last one week.

A respected and revered person,s funeral gets second page whereas a convicts hanging gets full and front page. What is considered news now a days?

Then victims of Bomb blasts hardly get mentioned anywhere, may be a small corner somewhere, nobody wants to see their miserable life, but they are busy in the moods of criminals.

yes we are in a country where people like to read about prisoners mood and food but nobody is bothered about general public's plight.

Media is always fanning the passions in the wrong direction, earlier nobody wanted to comment on anything subjudice, but today every Tom Dick and harry has an opinion and on all serious issues and they  are trivialised either for personal gain or fame.

Imagine  all sort of people giving advice to supreme court. If people had such strong opinions, then why dont they fight it in court, why have a media trial?..otherwise whats the point of having law system.

Capital punishment should be there or not, is a separate issue and should be discussed separately, but as long as its there in our law system, nobody can say that it shouldnt be given.

So much is being done by good people but they get no mention anywhere, so much is needed to be done but nobody brings it to light, they are so busy with trivia.

Interesting thoughts, Renu.

Well, different media organizations have their priorities in what should go on which page and in what manner. While some papers may have played down Kalam's funeral, there are others which carried a photo, but some others have gone and made that a very big story on front page. So, you have a full spectrum of different approaches to one type of news across all newspapers.

Also, today, the good old newspapers have become just one other media outlet. (Earlier newspapers were the only medium that provided detailed reports.) There are now news apps on mobile phones, there are websites, there is radio, there is television etc etc.

The world of media is fast changing.

Agree with you Renu..have been taking my angst on twitter but yet feel it is not enough. What if tomorrow the killer and rapist of Nirbhaya is also asked to be hanged? Will the same intellectuals raise their voice or will we see a different set of people? Who sets the agenda? Yakub was a terrorist. Period.

Let this nation discuss capital punishment and do away with it or bring in some other form of punishment. But let not the discussion go down to a level where some of us stand aghast and just cannot understand anything.

There’s nothing wrong in expressing ones opinion and although I find it healthier, taking it for personal gain is where it lose the real cause.

Negative news get/catches attention fast...this is the norm now. Even in the famous newspaper 'The Hindu' Momon's name was in bold letters in the front page, our/People's President's death news was in thin fonts on the right. But people know..they thronged in Rameshwaram. This is the situation world over nowadays, Renu! No positive news is good news nowadays.

B. Pradeep nair:yes media is changing but for worse..newspapers will become redundant in a few years, unless they do something to bring back credibility.

Happy Kitten:Today people are getting a negative mind set, they have to criticise everything..if govt is not hard on terrorist, then its a soft govt, if they crack hard, then they are killers...but this time so many people have written against news media, especially TOI that they must have woken up now:)

Jeevan: no harm in expressing opinion, but opinions against judiciary should be well thought out.

Sandhya: It looks like a paid media..

agree with you
nobody wants to take risk that is reason this happens TRP is important
But if someone takes risk the question is common people will they support majority will say they should not ask such questions
Its very complicated question when everyone has become selfish with some exceptions.

And in all the din, we completely overlooked the 173 medals our athletes won, coming third only to the US and China.
