Discipline

Today I saw many pictures in the newspaper about children being initiated into learning..VIDYARAMBHAM..as is the tradition here but surprised to see that first alphabet being taught was A,I thought it would be their own.
NOW the biggest and most enjoyable festival is in the offing and it pleases me no end to see the ads in newspapers everyday..makes my day festive. This year Diwali is special to me as my son and DIL will be with me. When he was young I used to tell him, that stay wherever you want, but make it a point to come home on Diwali, but practically it is not possible. To me Diwali pooja is very auspicious and I would love it if I have my children with me, but due to the traditions I am unable to desire the presence of my daughter and just miss her all the time. Now a days when I am cleaning the home to welcome Lakshmi, I miss her so much, she  brings so much of pleasure with her presence, I feel so much at peace, and there is nothing impossible, if I am tired she will do it,.... sometime I rue the traditions....
Yesterday i was talking to someone about children upbringing, and everybody had the opinion that todays parents are bringing up their children with a total disregard for etiquette's and discipline. May be since they didnt get that type of freedom and pampering, they want to give their children all that, but the result is disastrous.Children dont greet the guests, eat whatever they want and whenever they want, are not courteous to neighbours and not thankful for small gifts.Discipline and hard work is the key to success in life, so never replace them and always remember to bring up responsible citizens, evolved humans with kindness in their heart and respect for fellow citizens.Encourage delayed gratification than instant one.

I don't agree with you about what u said in the last paragraph.. I am unmarried but I have seen parents in this age taking good care of their children. Not only are they being taught the good aspects like greeting guests and being thankful for small gifts, they are now closer and more friendly to their parents than we were or our parents used to be. Yes, exceptions are always there. I too have seen some cases where the result is indeed disastrous but you cannot generalize the statement on the basis of some fools..

Renu,
I agree with you about the indiscipline part you have written. I am going to write some posts on the same. Last few days I was giving soft skill training to students of some colleges and I had tough time dealing with the students -. These are our future citizens, a chill runs down my spine when I think of that. Damaging properties, drinking, smoking, abusing , lack of respect for elders, disobedience has become very common now a days. OMG....where are we heading.

i guesss its because people dont have time , both parents are working these days , they dont have time to sit with the kids talk to them, know them , like my parents did

but then i have seen a lot of paretns making the effort and yeah i do agree that discipline and hard work are the key to success in life ...

but yeah the family values are on the fall dont know where we are heading, my cousins and youngsters call me Veerji and dont say a word against what i say .. but youngsters today well they call you by your name ...
god knows whats going to happen

Chanz: Yes Chandni, they are taking good care, loving and providing them with too much of evrything, but they are not teaching them discipline..they are being too friendly..there has to be a balance.

ShrutZZ; You havent been here for long..busy?..and Goa.wow..best place in India for holidaying..enjoy the trip !!

Chitra: exactly..where are we going?..Little kids come to my place and disturb everything, demand many things, and neither parents say anything nor they listen.

Bikram:Some people think..abhi bacche hain enjoy karne do, baad me sab theek ho jaayega..but it never happens, you reap what you sow.
I like that discipline in family where youngsters listen to their elders..it benefits both in the long run

I didn't know that the children are made to write 'A'! In our family it is 'Om' in Hindi and then Ah in Kannada or Tamil!

Times are changing...no time for anything now, Renu.

The information u shared regarding starting Vidyarambham with the letter 'A' surprised me. As far as my knowledge is concerned, usually the kids start to learn with the writing 'Harisree Ganapathaye Namah!' on sands.

Agreed. Pampered kids never listen. they turn out to be prodigal.

i agree with you. Parents should teach proper etiquette to children.

Renu, i think the key is one of the partners need to have less- demanding job. hat way they will be able to spend time with kids; else, indiscipline creeps in. Good to know that your son and DIL are coming over for Diwali!

Like Ialways say,it is the result of changing life style.Earlier we usedto live together as big families.. parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts all together.Children were always cared for.Grandparents enjoyed looking after children and teaching them values and morals in stories. Who has the time now? When both parents are working, children develope the computer style life.Hooked on to TVs and cartoons.Children learn faster, especially bad manners and words you dont want them to lean. They learn what they see at homes.Keep good manners in front of them, and then they learn good. After all, they have to learn from somewhere, dont they?

I agree, discipline is the key.
According to me Vidyarambh is made by writing Om Shri Ganeshaya namaha, isn't it?

Starting with the letter A seems funny. :)

Here we usually write "Shri" symbolising "Shri Ganeshaya Namah".

Agree with you Renu. Really sad to read about the 'A' effect in the Indians, hope they understand their folly.

Sandhya: even I thought so, but is aw in paper only that children were writing A.

Tomz: I also found it surprising and so I shared it:)

Manasa: Thats what I fear..this type of children will be spoilt brats of tomorrow.

SG:Even when my kids were young, I taught them discipline, its not that now they are grown up, so I say all that.

Madhu: I say whatevr you do with you life, you are free to do so, but dont mess up with kids, if you want them , then work hard.

Dr.Antony: and then we say we are progressing.Does the progress means more money, more gadzets only?

Bhagyareema:.yeah even I thought so..but times are changing:)

Manju Joglekar: Yes if we are doing a tradition, then do it in a proper way, but it is also westernised:)

Gauri Guha: its also a face of progress Gauri.

Renu, what you saw is probably the advertisement of a school....the name of the school is A school and in their ad, they show kids writing A.

Hi Renu, you have raised some pretty good points of kids today disregarding even basic etiquette. However sometimes adults are also at fault for the same..I always had an uncle who would never greet me and turn his face away from me every time he came home and this is in spite of me talking to him and welcoming him...in fact he started inquiring about me to my parents only after his own daughter got married! Such adults actually pass on such petty nature and habits to their kids...

Look at it this way, with both the parents working, the little time they get with their children, they pamper them to an extent where all their wishes are made true, however expensive or rude they may be!! And money is splurged instead of time on them another reason... so indiscipline grows.

But there are parents who bring up children with all these values and give them time... but many don't so we need to have some classes in parenting discipline... that's what you said too right :)

enjoy Diwali with your children Renu...
