10 things to learn from Japan

1.      THE CALM
Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief. Sorrow itself has been elevated.
2.       THE DIGNITY
Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.
3.       THE ABILITY
The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn’t fall.
4.       THE GRACE
People bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.
5.       THE ORDER
No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.
6.       THE SACRIFICE
Fifty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the N-reactors. How will they ever be repaid?
7.       THE TENDERNESS
Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak
8.      THE TRAINING
The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that.
9.       THE MEDIA
They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.

10.   THE CONSCIENCE
When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly

Pass this to every Indian you know, at least some will follow...

This is a heart touching tribute to the Japanese people. To see them behaving with such dignity and respect puts anyone to shame.

Even the most developed country of USA faced loot and vandalism when Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana.

God be with them; they will sure rise from the ashes.

I remember seeing a few films and reading a few books on WWII. The people make it out tht the rise of Japanese is a very recent phenomena.

But they were very well disciplened, hard working andloyal race!

Again I am not sure if this is a mere popular reporting...

I can truly appreciate what you have written. I have decided to post it in other places so that more and more people learn to inculcate such behavior especially in times of crisis, and even in normal times.
Thanks for sharing with us. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Yes, Japan exhibits such true qualities even in such hard times..

Renu, this indeed is inspirational. Though unfortunate, but the tragedy has indeed given Japan a lot of admirers around the world as everybody did note all the points you mentioned in your blog. Starking difference from what one sees elsewhere. They have earned a lot of respect for themselves!

In India such behaviour shall be considered "unsmart" and some woman may consider it "unmanly".

The other point is though I would want to act calm and use resources and food judiciously (during crisis), it will end up staying hungry.

Only rumours and bad things spread exponentially and not good news and good behaviour because of probability. (Mathematical explanation).

Japanese believe that right thinking and right act will take them through. Indians feel only cheating works. Probability of good things happening in Japan is very high. Probability of bad things happening in India is high.

Japanese are right thinkers and act rightly. They are like
that and probability among Japanese for such a behaviour
is high. In India, cheating and shortcut works. Probability
of such a behaviour is high in India. This causes exponential
rise.

It is best advised to behave according to the way countrymen
in general behave.
