Reservation and freebies Politics

I have never supported any type of reservation anywhere be it in education or jobs or promotion. Because everywhere merit should be the only criteria to have a good society. So I felt very disheartened when our new enlightened party people  said that they would like to do reservation in Delhi colleges for local people. Its again a divisive politics nothing else. They should concentrate on opening more schools and education institutions and try to better the present ones.In a country there should be no boundaries, otherwise  all states may start this notion and then there will be no end to it. On out side we are looking at global world and inside we are getting so narrow minded.
We must stop this mentality of privileges anywhere( yes reservation is only a privilege given to few..may be in any form). In the new order of the world, everybody must be equal...no special consideration for any one ,on any base..be it gender or caste or domicile anything....

And no freebies anywhere...politicians may distribute anything they want to, from their own money but not from the tax payer's pocket. When you see the train reservation, there so many categories for concessions, when its a question of allotting plots or flats, again there are so many....many rich and influential get plots for nothing under the garb of opening hospital, school or some artistic academy and then no one even knows of follows what happened to them .On one side we dont have money for good infra structure, on the other side politicians are distributing everything..whatever they fancy..I strongly feel that nobody should get anything free..poor or rich, they must work for it...

I agree with you Renu, this ogre of reservation is bringing down fair play and efficiency but nobody has the courage to end it.

One should not do away with reservation. It should be there for the economically deprived classes.Education should be made free for BPL class and affordable for lower middle class. The aim of reservation is to lift the traditionally poor from the morass of poverty and illiteracy. It should be on economic condition and not caste based.
Freebies should again be on economic basis for essential things.
Reservation and freebies should not become vote catching devices but intended to help the poor in raising their standard of lives..

Agree with you 100%. No reservations. Only merit based admissions.

indu chhibber: I was hoping that AAp will bring a change:(

KParthsarthi:We are doing that for last 60 years but what is the result..why not make a meritorial society with fair play...give poor economic assistance for basic education....See politicians gave mixi, toaster, laptops free to people who may not have evn electricity and what they did..many of them sold them for peanuts..so who benefitted,.the companies who supplied them and the mediator..

SG:only then we can hope for value based society.

It is too early to praise or criticize AAP. They need some time.

I agree with you completely on reservations and freebies not even for the economically weak.

These people squander the money, labour for two days and live on freebies, though they are hale and hearty. That is why we face labour problem today and these people become lazy.

I think free food or shelter(rehab) should only be given to people who are starving or helpless like during tsunami or earthquake that too for a shortwhile.

Free education till Plus II and then admissions in professional colleges at least just on merit basis should be there. No reservations on caste basis should be there for doctors and engineers. If there is, then they will not be able to cope up later with their work and the standard will be below average.

First counting on vote bank should go. For that, we need good, sincere leaders. They should get the majority so that they need not think of pleasing the allies all the time. Hmmm....these things will never happen in our time, or is there some hope because of the AAP now?! Will they keep up their promises?

I cant fully agree with you… of course by keeping aside some reserved seats chances of some deserving candidates are kept at bay… but imagine a situation in public transport where seats are reserved for elderly and challenged, if not for this they would be denied of their chance for no fault of theirs!

Asha:..Natural calamities are different thing, they are not reservation without merit..we want to abolishreservation not human kindness, charities and other social work.

Sandhya: Yes basic education must be good and provided free, but after that it should be merit..I also dont hope for much change in my life time, but it must happen..

deep: you have raised a valid point, but dont you think that whenever a good revolution comes some people suffer, but for the broader good of the society we have to face that..

@Renu - You did'nt get my drift:)

I did'nt elaborate on reservations only on freebies. I thought elaborating on reservations would make the comment lengthier.

But now i will clarify on freebies,

Even if economically weak, my belief is that we should'nt dole out freebies, they become kaam chors. I have seen these young laborers using the money given for indiramma housing in Andhra for buying bikes. They work for two days in a week to earn 600rs per week and live on the free rations that the government doles out.

Surely, kindness and charity cannot be done away. Doling freebies for the young and healthy is not charity according to me. They should be given employment opportunities instead.

Aasha; You are absolutely right..I also believe that for young and healthy, there should be no charity..

I can understand the logic behind freebies & reservation, but practically it doesn't work because fact of life: nobody truly appreciates anything given for free. Also, where you get things for free, you tend to become careless and arrogant. Whereas if there is some form of payment involved, then people behave with more responsibility.

Salomie: I have a firm belief that freebies nevr help anyone, people can come up in life only thru hard work and education

Yes no reservation but yes govt can subsidise the education fee to economically low students
