Happiness

Sorry friends, I havent been able to read blogs and update mine for a long time, this was the longest break I must have taken , since I started blogging. Actually first we were shifting and due to incessant rains we got the Internet after a week and then I had guests.

Last week our friends went to a trip to Ooty and the amount of havoc rains created there was really shocking..more of it was due to the flaunting of rules , neglect of environment and greed of certain people, we lost 300 crores and some lives..dont lknow when we will have ethical honest people here. The highlight of their trip was that they saw one young man who was looking very handsome and different, they asked him who he was and lo..........he was the hero...Kiran, they were very impressed with his demeanour and behaviour. Some people always remain down to earth.

We talked and discussed a lot and at our age, it always comes down to ..what is happiness and why there is stress in life.I am a person who does lot of introspection whenever anything happens and I try to think....did I do any wrong and if I didnt do anything wrong then why it happened to us? and all of us came to the conclusion that all that stress happens because we thing that we are the doer....whereas its not like this, nothing happens without the permission of God, its HE who decides everything, whatever happens is always his command and because of some grand perspective. But that doesnt mean that we must stop doing karma,....NO..we must always try to do the right thing but leave the results to God, whatever happens, we must neither take credit for it nor feel guilty, deprived or unhappy. What is important is doing the right thing and if we are able to do that, we must be happy and thankful to God, because very few people are able to manage that feet...One line that impressed me a lot .is.......I dont need anyone, in my life to be happy, I am happy in myself ,with myself....my happiness doesnt depend on things and people.
This topic is so close to my heart that I can write and write, but will be boring to others:).

Last week my sis came here from Canada and she did the impossible..she brought my mom also to chennai from Delhi..impossible because my mom has multiple health problems and she doesnt travel beyond the car:)...with this venture my sister showed that there is nothing impossible if one has the will....we had a blast, spent all the time at Pothys, Nallis:):):)..what are otherwise women for:)..then last day we saw 3 temples...Now a good costume jwellery shop has opened in Velachery 100ft road..Jazz, they have good items, though rates are little on higher side. She got two beautiful Pavadais stitched here..I just love them..best for formal wear or daily wear and look good also. The best part was that I and my sis reminisced about our childhoos, both of us grew together with not much of difference in age and our memories are so what should I say different from today's world...like always cooking something if our mom left us behind and younger siblings would be the esteemed guest and they being what they were would later ask our mom to make halwa like didi made( the burnt one)..we laughed so much rememebering those days..like we were quite afraid of our parents and wouldnt dare to do anything prohibited, so we were comparing with today's children..and my sis rememebers every little thing..it was really fun sitting together, drinking tea and gupshup..today when I see the single child syndrome, it saddens me that how much they will be missing, they will never know such sessions or the love of a sibling..its an experience in itself.

Last week was really good to me,as I got a prize from Burp for my review of Influence:)

Have you settled down in your new house, Renu?

Ooty...avoidable disasters. Now the authorities are suspending officials for permitting illegal buildings!

Your mother and sister, have come here when the weather is good. Otherwise, most of the people hate Chennai's hot humid weather. I think you cannot find so many huge textile and jewellery shops in the same area anywhere else, I think. Did they like Chennai?

No one is a saint, Renu. It is not easy to take everything easy in life. Our individual nature influences our lifestyle a lot. We have to just try to be reasonable with everyone, that is all.

Congats for the award/prize!

Sandhya: I am in the process of settling down:)

My family loved Chennai...but they loved Delhi when I was there:), so I think its more about people:)

But shops like chennai cant be found anywhere else..its real fun to shop here.

You are right, nobody is saint, but we can try to be fair.

Thanks for congrats !

Beautiful post Renu :D What you wrote on happiness, I heard somewhere else earlier this year and it made a huge impact on me, that everybody's happiness comes from God and from their own self. And no, the topic is not at all boring to me :)

Glad to hear you had fun with your mom & sister. And no matter what your physical health might be, travel & having a good time is always possible if you have the will for it!

RUSH:..ME too loves that drinking the tea together, today I am missing that:(
Thanks for the wishes !...I never even saw the flat i am going to live earlier, as I had implicit faith in God:), he has always given me good place to live, so why should I bother:)...and it is a nice place:)

Shalom:...Happiness is really a state of mind, its totally upto us whether we want to be happy or not.

All of us siblings never thought that its possible for her to travel by air, but my sis showed that if there is a will, there is a way.

As one grows older one starts to introspect and list the activities that gave happiness and those that did not.

"Happiness is always in the present moment and not in the distant or near future, and so it is important to enjoy the journey by accepting what comes one's way, rather than waiting for events to turn, as per one's own wants. Children have this unique ability and somehow we adults loose it in the process of growing up." (From the post on my blog on the subject of happiness - http://jpjopenpage.blogspot.com/2009/08/happiness-quest.html).This has been my experience and is in line with what you have written and is the central teaching in the Gita.

Shruti-sriharsha:..I am a typical saggi..nobody and nothing can keep me down for long:)....I thinks sisters are a must in everyone's life:)

JP Joshi: True..as we grow we aways think about everything and with time everything gets clear also.
Happiness to me is always a state of mind.

SG:I am trying to..changing a flat is like coming to ne new city all over again..one needs to look for maids, newspaper, magazines, milk everything:)
I have a firm belief that in life people always matter more than things.

Haan..even I wonder how will kids of the current generation know the thrills of having a sibling. It is such an enriching experience to have a bro or sister!
And good that you finally shifted. Hows the new house treating you? It feels so different na moving to a new place. and hey if you can write and write about happiness being dependent on people.. write na.. it would be so nice to read that. do give it some time and write and write :)

Take care!

Renu said...

radha: when we sisters start talking, our family gets really frustrated,we can talk non stop day and night:)

Amrita:I dont even want toimaginmy life without my siblings..they are my support system all the time:)
Though i have moved in the same locaality, stillthere is so much changed,I am yet to know my neighbours..and again I have to go and introducemyself as nobody comes here to see new neighbors:)

I thinksometimesmy bloggerfriends will think that I am giving a sermon asif I am a saint..I am not a saint, but I have always tried to do the right thing, sometimes with good results, and sometimes catastrophies also:)

Jayashree said...

Sounds like a lovely reunion....and you are right about nothing being impossible. It all boils down to attitude.

Renu said...

Jayshree:yeah it was:)...I also feel now that if weput ourmind to something we can certainly accomplish it,no matter how difficult it is.

Renu, I'm so glad, read the post earlier, but couldn't comment here (server probs).

So sis n mom visiting. Wow! It is always wonderful when we share the common memories n experiences. What more than siblings, childhood friends n parents:))

U just explained some bit of fatalism here... after all there is a power who controls everything, otherwise we would get our every wish fulfilled!

And we make n break our own happiness or boredom for that matter...

good to see u back.:)))

Renu said...

PNA: Server sometimes is like that here also.

I dont knowif it is fatalism..I take it as agood thing because world would have complete chaos,if everybody'swish could be fulfilled....its shown in a hillarious way in hindi movie..go tussi great ho

Lovely post,Renu! I really liked what you said about happiness and about doing the right thing. Yes if you do the right thing is the key to happiness.

Glad to know you had a nice time with your sister and mother :)

And congratulations on the prize from Burp :)

Renu said...

Deeps:Thanx:)....yes Deeps..doing the right thing always removes the stress in life and brings long lasting happiness.

We all enjoy our time with siblings the most:)

moon said...

Well i always keep telling myself...my happiness depends on me and not on others...though in reallife we depend on others , things etc for our happiness..

by the way dont you think you have contradicted yourselves in the end, saying you pity single child because of no siblings....

Renu said...

Sunder:....You are right on the track.
and no I havent contradicted myself...our happiness should nt depend on others..and I dont pity even the single children, as all my siblings have only one child..but the joy of those meetings with siblings is something to be felt only...my happiness doesnt depend on those sessions, but they give me a different high..the idea is we shouldnt make ourselves unhappy because of some other people's actions..but if we get particularly good people in life or things , they multiply our happiness.
