This & That

Just the other day I was walking back from the market..it was evening, getting dark..suddenly one young man asks me..Do you know Hindi? I immediately said yes, as I thought may be he was looking for his way and I could help him. He started saying..we are coming from Nagpur, we went to the darshan of Madurai and rameshwaram, and somebody stole our money.....I just cut him off in the middle and started walking away, because I got scared...as I had heard of 2-3 incidents of women being looted at that time, and I was wearing some jewellery. But my mind kept going to..what if it was true what he said? what if he was really a man in need? and i could really help him, I wished so much that my husband was with me, then I would have at least given him some money....I felt so restless and like a coward later on.Though when I came back home, my husband was sitting with some office people and everybody said that this is a very common con, good you came back, but still I think..
I didnt do the right thing.
Why we have come to a stage where we trust none.

Now-a days we looking for a flat,as we have to change the present one, we came across a very good one and the landlord was very interested and eager to give and lo..the next day its volte face..he says he would like to give company lease ....after lot of discussions we said fine,m we will take on personal, then he said, his son wants to give it to any of his relative only..but then why you came to us and took so much of our time..dont know why people behave like that.

BTW I saw Wanted and loved it:)...it looked like I was watching Kalia type movie of Amitabh bacchan...after a long time good action and good winning over bad...good dialogues and a fabulous hero..though slightly old type, but it has to be..now-a-days good doesnt win always....good entertainer.

Update of BIG BOSS.....The tables have turned a little..Rohit is not coming out a good person, he is the most chameliontype, always trying to create conflict between poeople..it was disgusting the way he told a lie about Claudia. The amount of bitching gossiping is done by men....Vindu, Rohit and Ismail Darbar ..amazes me..personally i have seen that men are good in general, its women who create problems( except my reader friends of course:), here the men are cunning, women are nice. And Raju Srivasatav is the only comic and entertaining person, though he goes overboard sometimes. Even big boss is covering selectively.women are covered less, men more..I would love to see more of Poonam Dhilloon and Aditi should be out soon.

Thought of the day...
Always keep your words soft and sweet,
just in case you have to eat them.

Even I have come across situations like the one u faced in the market. One fine morning, on the way to my office, an old lady with a 1 yr old baby came to me and told me that the baby is suffering from high fever and has to be take to the GH and needs money for the train ticket. I took out a Rs.10 note and wished the baby would get well soon. These days I find that lady very often on my way to office :(. Wat frauds!!!

This is really sad, because sometimes needy people wont get any help..once I found a vey old man outside our gate lying , I gave him food, shirt, a sheet to rest and all that, and next day again he was there in the the same way, all the things were gone..but I still feel may be his circumstances are so bad to make him behave like that.

Hard to say whether the man was a fraud or not- but I think you were right to come away- dangerous to take chances nowadays.

Never seen Big Boss...:)

The first incident - it is happening often, here, near bus stops, railway stations etc. As you said, we are not able to guess if it is a genuine case. This way, people who really need help, will not get it.

I have told my relative in Ceedeeyes, for a flat for you. She will inform, if there is one.

I really know what you're feeling here...I have experienced it on so many occasions. The worst is when they have a baby. I walked away each time, but felt AWFUL afterward. But I think you did the right thing. Trust is very difficult these days and our personal safety is our priority.

Nice post. The first one is 100% con game. The second one...the landlord wasting your time. It is also a con game to get more money for the rent. Had you offered an extra Rs.500 each month on rent, they would have disowned all their relatives.

SWATS:..why do they do it? why not let them be? Kamal was made a horror, cant believe that anyone could be like that in real life..and so are Ismail and Vindu, But people like Rohit are many....always bitching behind your back and praising in front:)

Sandhya: Thank you Sandhya !...We have seen a few , let us see:)

Yesterday also I read that two chain snatchings happened in Adyar, everyday this is happening, but still somewhere I feel that I failed myself in my duties:(

Manju: That time I was a little scared, but then I cant stop thinking that I must have courage otherwise i would never be able to do anything in life.
BIG bOSS is nothing much, since I have plenty of time, I pass like that.

Shades of Grey:..isnt it a irony that in a country where many need help such an environment is created that those wanting to help also cant do anything.

SG: Now-a-days there is just no correlation between property rates, rent and income of the people..we are going the US Europe way.

I would say you did the right thing :) I dont understand one more thing, why is the destination for these people always Nagpur ;)

Yup Renu, its a pretty common con in Chennai...
And good luck on the house hunt. Any particular area you are looking at?
Good that you keep updating on Big boss :)
this time i feel the tasks are very less and pretty un challenging. :(

hey dear... u really do not have to feel guilty as its a situation where u really cannot trust people now... i have wanted to help people real badly and have found that most r just fraud cases... i now try and walk away... Instead i have made it a point to help people who i know are in reall trouble or need the help rather than helping anyone out... but the worst case is that due to these fraud cases, people who genuinely need help are not getting it...

Ani_aset:WElcome here in my space !
Is that so? Did you see some more people from Nagpur?

Amrit; ..I am looking only in Velachery..as this is the nearest place for my hubby to commute.

Big boss is sometimes very insipid type...Theinmates are not some popular ones, should have some more attractive names.

Enigma: Thanks for the support..but you last line sums up my feelings and that i think a bad situation.

The situation that you mentioned about the man asking for help.. It is sad but true.. These days there are so many conmen/women around that we are scared to even help. Last time when I was in India, a woman came to our house asking for money - some drought or flood - I don't recall exactly. So my Dad said that there is a lot of work that needs to be done here. We will give you the standard rate if you work. She just refused and walked away - she was happy enough begging but refused to earn the money and this was a young woman not a feeble person either..

As for Big Boss - I don't watch it, so can't comment :)

I've come across the exact same thing......a man came up to me and asked if I know hindi....and I just walked away without saying anything. Has to be a scam!!!

Smitha: The incident you are telling, same happened to me when we were in Ranchi..one middle aged man came to us begging, my husband asked him for some work in the lawn and said we will give him food and money bothm, he went away saying...kuch dena ho to do nahi chodo.(want to give something, then give, otherwise leave it).

Jayshree; OMG!..Now I feel relieved a little, he must be fraud only.

Ah Renu, its a situation that has happened to me many times and everytime I walk away. What can I say, I'd rather be safe than sorry. And rahi baat about helping people by donating money, I give it to organizations I know for sure are doing good so that I have the reassurance my money is reaching people who truly need help.

There are so many con men that we have become immune to genuine people. One day my aunt found an old lady begging for some food from people and although her first thought was to deny her, she went ahead and gave her some food. On questioning she found her son had abandoned her at the railway station. She took the old woman to the police station and later to destitute's home. The lady since then has settled down there and is very happy.
Just imagine what would have happened if my aunt had not bothered.

It happened to me too in Chennai. The first time I helped by giving Rs 250.00, but realised that I had been cheated when similar people came to me atleast four times in my three years in Chennai. The first question was always...'Do you know Hindi', and it was a gentleman in Gandhi topi with a child and a woman in tow.

Renting in Chennai is a big pain.. one year interest free deposit, lease, and answering questions like..."Are you vegetarian....I donot even permit my grandchildren to eat non-veg in my house, etc. Our second land lord made us dispose of our 40 beautiful potted plants... he did not want them anywhere in the house or around.. and of course only six nails in the whole house... domestic help to be cleared by the land lord and more.......disgusting, BUT that is the way it is.

My wife has been trying to follow Big Boss on the internet... seems interesting this time.

Shalom: I really missed you:)..giving to organisations ..we can always do, but sometimes you just want to be to help to someone in need and if by god's grace you can so, you are happy:)

Aparna; Exactly the same thing I kept thing..what if he was really in need..but now with all other blogger's experiences , I can be rest assured , theat most probably he was a conman...But this really frustrates me.

JP Joshi: These people paly with our emotions,if I had any one person of my family with me, I would have certainly given him some money, just to make me feel better:)

Big boss is sometimes interesting and some time they stretch some silliness to the extreme, but one thing I have come to know for sure that...this game is being played without ny ethics by the payers, those who ar eplaying honestly are not able to retain themselves..as the mnost bitchy Rohit is getting away with his techniques and I think Tanaz and, Bakhtiar are the two people who are really genuine..uphold their beliefs, but not getting any support.

Con-game it is, the routine questions and the destination is always Nagpur. its hard to differentiate b/w the fakes and the unfakes...

I like Wanted too, feel good movie, a little supermanly Salman but it's fine ... got my share of entertainment.

Big Boss, I'm always curious to know who would want to go inside and stay away from the world for so many days (me thinks, secretly they get out).... and since the episodic news comes on every news channel, it's like I've watched this show and every other show on TV....my fav show...CID on Sony TV (loyal fan for so many years, in spite of the bad scripts)

Pins N Ashes:...These people have made the mockery of helping even.

Wanted was really good:) still the mention brings a smile to me:)

Big Boss...Anybody who gets that amount of money will live there:)..but they shouldnt be asked to do play acting, and as they show only one hr out of 24, they are showing us only selected conversations and due to taht sometimes they are quite incoherent.
