Few firsts.......

I read somewhere, someone. blog name..something we get too cheap...something like that and it reminded me that today there are so many things that we hardly notice even, but the first time we get it, the thrill is overwhelming, or till we dont get anything, we always think that may be once we get it, life will be a bliss, how wrong we are. Life is always bliss, its only we who see outside, never inside. Just see ...these are the few firsts in my life, and I always thought then that once I get them, but even you cant say..its a big thing:)
  • In my childhood, there wasnt electricity everywhere, and first time when we got it....it was.....oh lala:), now just switch it on and u have light..no lanterns and candles.
  • Then we used to have hand pumps, one had to work to get water even, and first time when we got this tap connection, I was so thrilled,.
  • We used to go to Ganga Ghat by Bullock cart.....yeah believe me, I had many bullock cart rides, cemented roads and transport came much later......
  • First time when i heard from my Mausi that they have TV and everyday sunday they watch movie at home......felt so envious...see how lucky they are(in those days TV reception was limited to big cities only) and i was a movie addict from my childhood. and then Asiad turned everything into colorful panorama.
  • Now the desire turned to VCR..and I thought that once i have it we wont need to go out to halls and all, it will be real fun, and yes initially it was fun, but then everything becomes routine.
  • I used to get 10 paisa per day to spend, (of course all the expenses were taken up by parents, it was only for munching something in School) and it was sufficient for us, Myself and my sister never demanded more, only once my Chacha(uncle) said...(ours was a joint family).....we must increase it to 12 paisa he called it..mehangai bhatta..hehe---Dearness allowance in corporate language:), compare to the pocket money today.......and we were the happy lot..no dissatisfaction at all:)
This is the way life goes on....first mobile then Ipod , now I phone......and the things will keep coming and we shall keep running after them, the point is that these are only accesories to a life, not the life itself. Things come and go,its only the people in our life who remain there, so----
Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.

Off late I have noticed (I don't know if I am alone in this one) that even people start behaving exactly like the gadgets!!

Happy New Year Renu..how have you been?
Yes we all get excited with new things but once the novelty wears off we forget all about it..I think it is true even about our relationships..once the novelty wears off we move on and do not really put efforts to sustain the relationship.

yes... i wanna be gadget freee.. i want my childhood... those outdoor games that i used to play...

"These are only accessories to life, not life itself"......what an amazing and absolutely true thought!!!

Yeah, so much has changed. The advent of technology has led to an erosion of basic manners and etiquette

that's so true...Materialism shouldn't make us forget our own people....really good message :)

hey Renu, this is exactly what I wrote in the post today. That the more we get, the more we want.. except that mine had a different connotation from yours ofcourse!

Hi......
Your blog is really interesting... Keep posting.... may god bless you !

An absolutely awesome post Ma! You've brought out a very good point by listing your firsts as they're those things that we take for granted today. The desire for material things comes and goes and the list never ends. The joy they bring is momentary. So we should not waste our life trying to fulfill our "shallow" lists.

Destination Infinity: I didnt comprehend what you are trying to say, will you elaborate?

My Space: me too wish u a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Seeing you after a longgggggg time:)
In life we need to work on everything, nothing comes free without work:)

Chriz: Now thats impossible..I mean free of gadzets:), but yes I also loved playing outside, though in our times girls were allowed to play outside only till 10 yrs old:(

Shalom: :)

SWAT: See ,any development is not bad, it depends upon us how we use it, to facilitate our life or make our life.

Anurag: Thankx for the visit, hope to see you here more often:)

Cess; See this is the point:)....after some time we become so habitual of these things that we even forget the times when they were not there:)

Piper: we have similiar thoughts, thats why we are friends, isnt it? coming there:)

Femin Susan: Thanks for the visit ! Hope to see you here more often!

Smriti: Thank you Guria ! But I never had that wisdom at your age:)
So you are certainly more enlightened than me, because at my age its very easy to say all this, but real value lies in realising it at ur age:)

true...we keep moving forward and forgetting the past...which in a way is a sign of progress...we keep upgrading ourselves because these are accessories and we need better ones everytime...but true relationships are to be cherished forever...totally agree with you here...

Wishing you peace & prosperity.
Amen !

Maddy; Thanx:) and my daughter is one in a million, its not a mother saying so:) I mean a girl blessed with everything in life , but living simple life out of choice is very rare:)

Deeplydip: yeah, i say move forward...good, but never forget ur roots, woh jameen jahan se aap aaye hain ,hamesha aapke jehan me rehni chahiye, rooted in earth...fly anywhere:)

U knw the same thoughts occur to me also. My kids dont know what a cassette recorder is...when they see the old cassettes they ask curiosly what it is & how it works whereas these very cassettes used to be my lifeline in school & college:-P.

These kids have the best of everything but I still feel my childhood beats theirs anyday....roaming around in the fields, plucking mangoes right from the tree itself, bathing in the river....oh I cd go on.

Your post was abt gadgets & I diverted somewhere else but I felt somehow tht it sort of connected.

Renu said...

Reflections: yeah, even my 100 casettes are lying useless now, and once evn video casettes were so dear to me:)
I feel that the best always lies near the nature, farther we go we may find development latest gadzettes, but that something is missing......
My nephew (living in Canada) saw a cow on the road and he shouted loudly..ma cow, and we Indians who have always seen everything from the childhood hardly ever realise the value that we dont have to go everytime to a Zoo to see everything:)

I agree with you whole heartedly. Its a pity that we dont realise what we have and yearn for more without ever being thankful for what we have been blessed with.

When my daughter and I had gone to Delhi a few months back to visit my parents, she would invariably ask us to put on the A/c without realising there was no need for it.And then I realised she thought A/cs were a given in any household.
In this part of the world where I live having an A/C is a necessity, not a luxury. So how could I blame my daughter for thinking such?
What I can do is help her realise and be thankful for what she has and not cringe at what she doesnt.
Thanks for such an awakening post:)

hmmm regarding gadgets i always kinda get a feel what if down the line it turns obsolete? hmmm isliye i never had much fascination for hoarding a lot of stuff which are gadget driven... the only thing i buy like a maniac is books... cos no matter wht... books will remain.. even in the age of 24*7 new channels and internet - newspapers sell :D ...
and family... ah!! they are the ones who hav carved us...

and ur post made me realise how my post mite be when i have 2 generations of my own. mebbe i will write to them about first cell phone and they will think granny whatttttttttts a cell phone and i will srch the whtever equivalent of internet thr is and present a foto!! :D

Deeps; Its only question of getting so habitual of something that u dont even realise that yesterday when it wasnt there, still u enjoyed then life, and tomorrow also u will enjoyed it with something else.
The problem today is that most of the parents being extremely busy in making careers, ply the children with things....thus making them think that things can be a substitute for people.
My take on this is that let the children deswerve each and evrything before giving it to them, teach delayed gratification....thats the key word for me in upbringing..it brings discipline and patience both in their personality.Though I may be oldfashioned to this gen:)

Amrita; After a long churning in my mind I have come to this that we should have min. gadzets in life..it makes our house less cluttered also, saves money, and life is also easier. More gadzets not necessarily make the work easier. In a country like us, if we give employment to some people instead of buying machines its much better.

i like ur closing line :) very true... i used to ask my mom how cud there b days without fones tv etc... wat only people did!

Sanmerci; Even I didnt have any landline for the first 10 years of my marriage..may be more even... thats why its said..its easier to climb but very hard to come down.
even today few of my relatives dont hsve any car, AC, mobile , not because they cant afford it but, they dont need it:)
