The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and
laying up supplies for the winter.
The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the
summer away.
Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or
shelter so he dies out in the cold.
Indian Version:
The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and
laying up supplies for the winter.
The Grasshopper thinks the Ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the
summer away.
Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed
while others are cold and starving.
NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper
next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled
with food.
The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor
Grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the Ant's house.
Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that
Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter .
Mayawati states this as `injustice' done on Minorities.
Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for
not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.
The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the
Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt
support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) .
Opposition MPs stage a walkout. Left parties call for 'Bengal Bandh' in
West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.
CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard
in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and
Grasshoppers.
Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway
Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the ' Prevention of Terrorism
Against Grasshoppers Act' [POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the
winter.
Arjun Singh makes 'Special Reservation ' for Grasshoppers in Educational
Institutions & in Government Services.
The Ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left
to pay his retroactive taxes,it's home is confiscated by the Government
and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.
Arundhati Roy calls it ' A Triumph of Justice'.
Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice '.
CPM calls it the ' Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden '
Koffi Annan invites the Grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.
Many years later....
The Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar
company in Silicon Valley,
100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere
in India,
.
......AND
As a result of loosing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the
grasshoppers,

LOL....have read this before but still it is an entertaining to read it again as there is more than a grain of truth in it.
Hope U r having a good holiday;-D!!!
Good one....
I don't know weather to laugh at the irony of the whole thing or to nod my head in agreement. Nice one.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
SUPERBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
I want to mail this to ALL my contacts..may i?
Renu! That was BRILLIANT!!!! Very apt take ! Our govt do little to encourage enterprise and with these constant addition of reservations.. all that happens is rich-poor divide is never really tackled..
ahahaha...
nice one... am laffing..
chriz
Funny...hehehhe....
but i wholeheartedly disagree with the underlying message :)
and plz renu, not a word against arundhati roy... :D :D :D
class analogy.... a sharp remark on our sad state of affairs...only if these politicians would stop supporting the grass hoppers!!
Do you know Renu, In mumbai some low cost houses have been allocated to people based on a lottery...a female who did`nt win a house in this lottery threatened to kill herself, screamed, threw a tantrum..in short got enough press coverage to grab attention and now has been promised by a minister that he will get her a house in the next lot..
So much for luck...now only if Ants would learn such tactics??? Sigh!!
This is so true.. :)
100% true! Great post Renu. The cream of the population has crossed over. Only the residue is remaining here, lamenting at the sad state of the country, without taking any effort to change it.
PIXIE: I also got it sometime back:)
Manju: not totally but some part of it is true:)
Mystic Margarita: :)...so how are you settling down?
Reflections: :)
I am in Seattle now and reading books..one of Ludlum:)
Suree; Welcome here:) and hope to see you here often:)
Jayshree: its a irony.
Swats:Glad u liked it:)
sure..mail it to evryone.
Smitha; Basically our govts interest doesnt lie in the welfare of the poor, but in their seats. If the govts are sincere, we can be a developed country very soon.
CHRIZ: so :) i am able to make you laugh...I am honored:)
REBEL: I know U cant agree with me, u r a socialist:)...so u r a fan of Arundhati Roy..did u like her book God of Small things? I didnt.
MY Space: Hi AArti, bahut din baad aaye ho? kaise ho?
Politicians turn evrything into a farce, because their intentions are not genuine,
Rohini: I hope that some politician learn this.
Wow, amazing story! Really great one...sad but true story of India.
I llllllllllllllllloved God of Small Things. There is no other book which comes even close to GOST in my favourite book list. And I have never read a book which has presented tragedy in a more unique way. Infact, thats the only book of Roy that I have read till date.
Wow! did you come up with these analogies? It has been a long time since i dropped off the blogosphere but i enjoyed reading that one! I hope i make a come back soon.
Kanupriya: yeah, I just hope that the concerned people wake up sometime and realise it.
Rebel;......I dint like it:), in these celebrity writers I like Vikaram Seth:)..didnt like even white tiger:(
SR: No this was sent by email from my bro:)...why are you not blogging? busy?
Sandhya: Thats what I think that reservations are not going to take us anywhere, instead we must encourage hard work.
What you said was right. But go ahead and complete the story:
Ant settled in US of A thinking that it is a heaven.
Ant takes loan, graduates and buys property thinking that it is an investment as the ant has a good job.
Come Sub-prime crisis, ant is with a house that is much lower in its value and a huge loan.
Ant is thinking of coming back to India as Sub-prime crisis also triggered recession and ant loses job/gets a pay cut.
Socialists, Communists or Capitalists - They all play the same game. Human beings are hopeless!
Destination Infinity
LOL! quite true to an extent :D:D
just saw your reply to Sandhya..a post on reservations is lying as a draft :))
its getting too long :D
ROFL... Too good :)
Reservations must be done with, at once!!!
Destination Infinity: what you say is true but not completely...this happened only with the people who adopted american ways, but the ones with their Indian thinking are rooted solidly in save and then spend and today sitting comfy with their bank balances.
are socialist, capitalist are not human beings?...you sound too pessimistice whereas I always see the silverlining behind the clouds:)
Indyea: write the post and you will get the comments even longer than the post:). This topic is very close to my heart and I believe strongly for no reservation anywhere for anybody.
Kido: hellooo:) welcome here:)
Amazing, amazing story. You know one of the reasons I left India was exactly why the ant left - my hard work was not getting appreciated there.
Who wants to leave their home country and study/work/stay abroad away from their loved ones when if not the same money or lifestyle, but at least the same respect can be found in their home country??
Niedhie: Niedhi you are right when u say who wants to........ yes we must all work in the direction to make our country a better place, so that nobody has to go out to ge thwe appreciation.
