Love

Now a days there is promo on TV coming, saying Love is in air---its about love stories on firangi channel. Then everyday we hear some one saying- I have found real love ( saif exclaiming that for Kareena-just imagine a man having two children saying that---disgusting )What is love then?
When a boy looks for a beautiful girl as a life partner---is it love ?
When girls go for a well settled boy---is it love ?
When on the valentine's day big gifts are expected and sometimes demanded, is it love ?
or when on the mother's day or fathers days, gifts are given or they are feted, is it love ?
Then what is love. It may have different meanings and connotations for different people, for me love means-----
when a mother takes care of her child it is love,
when a father protects his children disciplines them (so what if he looks like a little over strict ) its love
When a husband of sixty years worries every time his wife is unwell, its love
When the children look after their parents emotionally, physically and financially , it is love.
When a wife who herself is old still always makes the bed tea for her husband, it is love.

Today's love stories which may not even continue for even 6 months are not love, just pastimes or a mutual attraction. Love is endurance, patience, acceptance and much more. Its not about changing partners on slightest whim, or celebrating it on a particular day. Its an ongoing process for life. Love is there everyday. It manifests itself in every single thing you do. Its eternal.
Love is
about not hurting your loved ones,
putting their happiness before yours,
accepting them for what they are,
never taking them for granted,
respecting your people
having no ego and
being there when they need you,

and love is not there--
when you
think of getting even,
getting an upper hand or trying to dominate in relationships,
being sarcastic,
taking advantage of their love,
there are so many things I can think of , but the point is there is no point in celebrating love on one day, its better to be that way all the time and try to understand the meaning of love--its not between couple feeling only which is love, love is omnipresent and in everything , and the backbone of a society, whether its for people, pets, environment or any other cause.

You're absolutely right. Love is everything you mentioned in your post. I think that 'love' and valentines day has just become too commercial!

I agree with all the points you have made here, Renu! Love is just 'give and take' and should not be one sided between all human beings.

Agree Renuji, no point celebrating on one day only. Or celebrating it to show off. Love is unconditional acceptance and all that you've said is tough - love is not for the faint-hearted for sure:)

Love and attraction are very different things... those Bollywood and TV folks are very confused.

Your post gives the impression that love is there ONLY among long (years) lived husband and wife. Also, ONLY between parents and their kids. You are stereotyping. You are wrong. I want to give 2 examples. One real life and one from a Movie.

Here is the real. A young man in his 20s married the girl he loved, against the wishes of his parents. His parents were multi billionaires. She was middle class. 800 people attended from the bride side. The groom was the only one attended from his side. No family. No friends. He said he does not want any money from his parents. These 2 are celebrating their 43rd wedding anniversary this year. He made more money on his own than his parents. Is it not love? Yes, this is love. (This is a real live story)

Millionaire boy meets a poor girl at Harvard University. Boy’s parents don’t approve. They still get married. They don’t have money. They save money because she wants visit Paris. She got cancer and admitted to hospital. She says “screw Paris”. She knew she will not live. Asked him to make amends with his parents and be happy. He says “I am sorry honey”. She says “love means never having to say you are sorry”. She dies. His dad comes to the hospital and says he is sorry. He repeats the same word “love means never having to say you are sorry”. (This is a movie story.)

SG: You are absolutely right in both the cases..thats true love..may be I was not able to express myself properly..may be because of the examples i gave..I just wanted to say that love is not frivolous..love is there when it stays forever..not the one which is dependent on gifts and such things..love is about caring for the other side more than yourself, which is what you are showing in both of ur examples....

Love has to be unconditional other wise it is like barter system. i give you an expensive greeting card, you give me a crystal art. Finally, it is the greeting card/ gift company that makes more money.

Renu, so much of superfluousness is now termed as love! What a pity!!

Renu said...

Asha: Unconditional love is very difficult to have..but we can barter love for love:)

Rahul Bhatia:These are the the times of consummerism:)

And love is what gives you the confidence to walk through life with confidence and with your head held high and a smile on your lips :)

" Its not about changing partners on slightest whim, or celebrating it on a particular day. " - couldn't agree more on this. These days people seem to have mixed up lust and love. Love is not easily forgotten as soon as you find a better boy/girlfriend.
Even I don't believe in valentine's day and all the display of love that is done.
