JOKER IN THE PACK

This is a book by Ritesh Sharma and Neeraj pahlajani both from IIMs.Its so engrossing and interesting that once you open it, cant leave it without finishing. Seems to be so real, as if its autobiography. Like I read White tiger also..that is also in first person, but this is totally different...one lives those two years with the protagonist.
This book reading was really specially for me as I felt I was peeking into the the two years of my son's life thru the protagonist..Shekhar Varma. I always wondered, what they teach in IIMs to completely transform the personality. My son was totally changed person after these two years.. so confident with a certain charm, whereas earlier he was this care free person, exactly like Shekhar . paragraphs I liked....

Ashok and Vasudha ( parents of Shekhar) had made a silent pledge within their hearts to leave no stone unturned in pampering him with all that they never got during their own lives. " All they never got was not an idyllic garden laden with cookies and cream pies, All that they never got was good schooling in an English medium institutions, tutions to supplement the schooling and circle of friends focused on education.

If four consecutive questions were answered as one of either options b or c, there was a high probability that one of them would be right and greater than 50 percent probability that two of them would be right.

Two kinds of people go on to become successful....... those with extraordinary merit or those with extraordinary jugaad.

A long as they are getting what they want IIM guys can be really nice people.....its just the expectations we have that are so high, that its hard to get us what we want.

But in the end I felt sad when he (Shekhar) said, he felt happy to be back at hostel from home........ and realised that children grow like this only:)

Seems like a nice book. I will pick it up too.

Actually there comes a time when children prefer their friends to parents because the company is more fun but I don't think there is any love lost.

I believe what parents can do is to provide best home for their children to grow up and explore the world themselves.

Pixie ans Smriti; you people will like it even more than me, because of its hostel lingo and life:)

Slilo: yeah I know:(. i always say.... a plant always grows better away from the tree, but mothers are mothers:) always wishful:)

interesting review ...I like stories about hostel life ..recently I read bombay girls bombay rains ..it was fantastic ...

will pick this up soon ...

and its ironic that children enjoy friends more than parent's company at times but soon all they discuss with friends is how they miss home and mom's food and pampering ...I have done that 100 times ..the moment I fall sick,i call home and become a kid ...miss my mom and am missing her now big time...:-)

sounds interesting..never heard of it tho

hw is 'the white tiger'??

I think, the change in attitude could also be due to the responsibility of having to live alone. Of course, brilliant company also helps.

yeah, I tend to agree with Solilo... when I was in my final year engg., I used to spend an extraordinary time with my friends and gang but there was no love lost.... in family.... :)

I need to read the book now...

Preeti: Even I like like hostel stories, thats the reason I loved Enid Blyton's, may because I never stayed there:)

Who is the writer of this book..Bombay girls...?

I know how much children miss home:) and food and all :)

SWATS: My son had it, I was rummaging thru his things and found it:)

White tiger is also interesting and good, but not like this, that has more mataphors and symbols and grey area.....But this is a straight from the heart pro9duct, and a very good dekko in the working of these prestigious instituitions.

Destination Infinity....Not in my son's case, as he did his engg. also living in hostels. It is the work and motivation over there, he learned there to manage with 3-4 hrs of sleep only, to work so much and remain fresh, to take charge of things, that charming demeanour....how to get what u want:)

Ordinary Guy; I didnt mean that they loose the affection for family, no:)..its the feeling that they are growing up now, actually i dont know how to explain:), u will understand only when u have kids:)

Deeplydip: I am yet to read that, actually other two i have read:)
BTW where are you, no new posts for long?

Seems like a nice book, Ma! Chalo koi to samjha ki bacche aise hi bade hote hain :)

I think I should thank that author for enabling the parents to understand the life from a child's perspective; but that brings me to a more grave question: what if your child is different from others? Then probably the parents would never be able to understand their child because they would be unable to see the similarities with others.

Smriti; accha madam:) Parents are forever eagar to understand the children..its upon the children to share their views, life and ideas.

I'm gonna try to pick this book. I really loved 'Five Point Someone' by Chetan Bhagat - gave me some kinda view into the IIM's world.

Tell us something about 'White Tiger'? I want to know what this book is all about.
