ELECTION AND MEDIA

Now.a day election fever is on, and whenever I switch on TV..some anchors seem to be perpetually saying....Sharad yadav( or some other politician )Unplugged....mothers of all battles..Varun...................

and the anchor keeps asking inane questions which are neither important for the country, nor the politicians are going to answer and public's time and money both are wasted. I want to ask media..

Why dont they bring the MP, MLA from each and every constituency everyday on TV rather than the same big leaders again and again on all the chanels and asking them same questions, getting same answers? and then ask the one who are sitting MPs..what they have done in the last five years for their place?

what are the plans of the first timers for their constituency?

and then keep track of them..If every politician just takes care of his/her own constituency the whole country will progress.it would be much more effective than just asking everybody.....
what is your take on Varun's speech?
Are you truly secular?

I agree that varun has given a bad speech, but did he really deserve to be booked on NSA? Is he a terrorist?
On one side we allow all the bahubali's and known dons to stand for election and on the other side we book someone under NSA for verbal crime only.

Then Akshay's drama at LFW..totally offensive to my sensibilities.he doesnt even remember that he is a Padma shree, I really wonder should the people be given Padma shree so casually? who dont have any decorum about their public behaviour? and can go to any length for the sake of publicity?

People are crying for shifting of IPL, I also cry but for different reasons....first IPL people must have their priorities right, elections are much more important than any game or anything else, if they were patriotic they should have shifted the dates than shifting the venue, but forget that, these are commercial people, will do anything for money. I am only sad because our country lost a big business opportunity and temporary employment for many.

lastly i find it very amusing to see..

Mallika sarabhai ..not owning any car

Rahul gandhi......not owning any car( I wonder how does he multiplies his money so fast..in the last election he had 22 lakh, this time he has 2.5 crores)

One last thing..today in the paper I saw the group photograph of the the team helping with Miss India in TOI.... and the sitting arrangement is gender biased:)..all the women sitting and men standing behind them:), didnt expect it from the people of Femina and wonder why none of the women protested::)).....or they dont mind privileges , here equality doesnt matter--tch tch...my dear friends, if you really seek equality then stop taking privileges( though I dont advocate all this equality bussiness literally---I go for the essence))

and friends I am leaving for Hyderabad today and will be back after a week:), so till then I will ck the comments only:)

Its business houses - Am I right.

Such a thoughtful and intelligent post Renu. I agree with every word you have put down. How does Varun become a terrorist really? And the entire Gandhi family is such a sham. They do no work but keep earning money. The entire political and media scenario in our country is a fiasco!

Thanks for your wishes for the trip !

Renu, I agree with everything you say! Esp the bit about the media not foccussing on the important aspects. Nobody seems to be bothered about talking about real development.. I guess its all about getting the most sensational news...

And hope you have a great trip!

and thanks for the wishes, I like Hyderabad very much:)

Wow! One post and so many topics/thoughts...made me think again for a while :)
1)I don’t think the NSA invoked on Varun is wrong, he may not be a terrorist but he has done something that is equally harmful. He is running for elections, he’s asking to lead the country and he forgets the important tenet on which the country’s constitution run, then how do you call such a person even eligible? He used his political image in the wrong context which could probably result in the harm of the people at large. Purging communal speeches like these is unpardonable Renu, it is a crime, a very big crime, if not taken care of at the right moment it could have created a communal war, it is indeed a national security issue…so what do you call this? I think it was the right thing to do, but I don’t want it to be a singular episode, I want this action to be taken on every politician who does that!
2)What Akshay did was a glamour aspect of a fashion show, what I don’t agree is giving him that Padma shree.
3)I totally agree with what you said abt the IPL. I feel sad for the same reasons.
4)As for the pic, I think it was done more for aesthetic reasons! :)

Sorry for the long comment but I’m sure you’ll understand.

P.S: Have a good trip,ummm...why am I thinking of biryani all of a sudden?! ;)

Renu, I agree that the media should play a more responsible role in the electoral process. They should quiz and grill candidates on their parties' manifestos and on their own plans to develop their constituencies.
However, I do differ with you on Varun. What Varun said is unpardonable. I have never heard such a grossly communal speech in my lifetime. For the first time, I am really on the side of Mayawati and completely agree that booking him under the NSA was the apt step to take. And Renu, you can't say "On one side we allow all the bahubali's and known dons to stand for election and on the other side we book someone under NSA for verbal crime only."
Two wrongs NEVER make a right. I think a precedent needs to be set by giving Varun as strict a punishment as legally possible. BJP and the other parties need to be conveyed the message that communalism has no place in our country. If you think that dividing people on the basis of Hindu-Muslim would get your more votes, then the only place fit for you in this country is behind the bars. I still feel like puking whenever I hear that b**tard's speech (plz pardon my language, but I seethe with anger whenever his name crops up).
And I find it utterly surprising and disappointing that BJP STILL sides with Varun on this issue. Extremely sad.
About Akshay Kumar, I don't know, but the society and media really needs to grow up. And just cos he asked Twinkle to unbutton his jeans does not make him unworthy of the Padmashree.
On the IPL part, I am completely with you. Elections are far far more important than any sporting event.
For Rahul Gandhi or Sarabhai not owning a car, maybe it IS laughable, but I won't attach much importance to it as long as they have declared whatever assets they have with complete honesty.
Again, as for Miss India, I think ladies seated and men standing appears better than some men seated and some ladies standing, no? Or maybe I am just a bit chivalrous :D
Have a very nice holiday!!

@Goofy Mumma -> The Gandhi family might be a sham, but atleast they don't go around slaughtering innocent Muslims. And trust me, it is not just the Gandhi's who keep increasing their net worth. Don't tell me that the leaders of the BJP are as pure as drops of the morning dew. Lastly, for being booked under the NSA, you do not have to be a 'terrorist'. Anyone who threatens National Security can be booked under NSA. Now you tell me is making igniting speeches which fan communalism NOT a security threat for the country? Do you want to see a retake of Godhra? I guess not.

Very good suggstion. It is time they did it soon. But too many languages may create confusion. May be for each Lok Sabha constituency, they should make all the contestants appear and have a decent debate.

Hope NDTV,TV9, Cnn-IBN, Sahara , Star , Zee etc are thinking on these lines.

interesting post...
well even i wondered how come rahul gandhi multiplied his money!! humein bhi toi tips de do :D

and hmm about the sitting arrangement.. i did nt think it so much about gender bias.. but look and feel.. cmon it does look weird to have a room full of men sitting and women standing.. no matter what.. end of day men should appear as gentlemen...and it is gentlemanly to offer a lady a seat..
in fact i rembr being taught in some soft skills class.. dont offer a man a seat unless he is handicapped and dont pay upfront.. you may split the bill later but upfront in front of every one dont pay up.. these small small nuances are needed i feel renu

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have absolutely no understanding of DECORUM and PROPRIETY..Wht they did was more than VULGAR! There are better ways of garnering publicity and grabbing eyeballs..SICK!

I am still confused as hell. I don't whom to vote for??? But I will definitely VOTE..

Wish you a very happy holidays, Renu!

I was shocked to read about Akshay in Shobha De's article. Yes, they are actors and they have to do something to be in the news. But this, shame on him.

Varun's outburst is not his opinion, I am sure. BJP people or someone in that party are pushing him to get publicity. Again...for publicity actors and politicians will do anything.

Yes, they should have shifted the dates instead of venue. Their money is at stakes!

Forget all these things and enjoy your holidays, Renu!

Quite a few interesting, amusing questions!! :)
thoughtful post though...
I agree about the TV anchors and their questions...
Will not comment on the Gandhi family... :P (either one of them)

The Femina Miss India - didn't watch. Lost interest in these beauty pageants long back! :D

Have a great time in Hyderabad. I hope its not too hot or humid there... :)

I agree...a few days ago I was in a lousy mood and I turned to...guess what?? INDIA TV. He had a hilarious 1 hour segment on "Obama ke Yamdoot" and how Obama is sending his "Yamdoots" to kill Osama.... ridiculous. And that was prime time news.

I wish the media didnt just commercialise itself for feeding rubbish to the people...its role is to make people aware of things around them and enlighten them. Who needs to know if Rahul Gandhi doesnt even own a bi-cycle (that was announced like a BREAKING NEWS)

Lastly, but not at all least....looking forward to your visit here :)

Agree with you on Varun as well as Akshay point. I also keep on wondering why so much against Varun & for Akshhay, hahhh! I anyways don't know why on earth did he get this padamshree and to add to that if this award is so unimportant to him then its high time such ppl shud not be given such prestigious awards!
Have a nice trip to hydbd :-)

Exactly....u've provided the right idea for the media.
Seriously these media persons r a joke..they ask such stupid & inanae questions tht I sometimes wonder wht goes on the candidates mind[I bet they'll be why they bother to go to these sessions].

And wht did Akshay Kumar do?????

Have a good trip:-))!!!!!!!!!!

Getting local MPs on, asking them about their plans & then tracking them is a brilliant idea! Because what we really need in this country is accountability: you don't have to promise us the sun, moon & stars, even simple measures would do as long as they are carried out, and that too promptly and within the framework of the law.

Hope you have a nice trip :)

Well, the media has to earn its bread and butter too. And if they don't attract the viewers, how will they survive?
Nope, not justifying anything, not saying the media is right. But then, we have a choice. Cut it out.

Very valid arguments Renu...even I am wondering about treatment towards Varun....somewhere I heard that the sonia family is using its power to thwart Menaka's family.....may be some truth in it...

Regarding the Femina Photo, how come noone has thought about it?

Have a nice trip

Still thinking: I don’t want it to be a singular episode, I want this action to be taken on every politician who does that---this is what i want to say,he is singly being targeted.

What Akshay did was simply obscene, not fashion, not glamour.Whatever the profession or area..there is always a demarcation between obscenity and fashion.

Aesthetic:).........:):), Girld nevr question their privileges , they are not fair:)

Do you like Dum ki Biryani? I am a vegetarian, so...:(

Rebel: Two wrongs NEVER make a right. I think a precedent needs to be set by giving Varun as strict a punishment as legally possible.......you are right but the rules should be for everyone, not for a single person or for a single party.......
BJP and the other parties need to be conveyed the message that communalism has no place in our country.-------here you are also partisan...otherwise you would have simply written ..all parties, not BJP and other parties.

If you think that dividing people on the basis of Hindu-Muslim would get your more votes, then the only place fit for you in this country is behind the bars. I still feel like puking whenever I hear that b**tard's speech (plz pardon my language, but I seethe with anger whenever his name crops up).......Do u think its only Hindu Muslim division..no all the aprties are garnering votes on caste basis only, Indian politics is based on cast only, there are no ideologies but cast and that is the reason we have politicians, not statesmen.
Varun.....is a new comer and this is election time...when everyone is getting hyper, you are exaggerating by taking him so seriously,------BJP rule has the distinction of having least no. of communal riots..dont forget it.

About Akshay Kumar, I don't know, but the society and media really needs to grow up. And just cos he asked Twinkle to unbutton his jeans does not make him unworthy of the Padmashree------Come one:) its not growing up, we are Indians and we dont have a culture of the men asking their wives to zip them in front of an audience..please:)

For Rahul Gandhi or Sarabhai not owning a car, maybe it IS laughable, but I won't attach much importance to it as long as they have declared whatever assets they have with complete honesty.------Honesty.....big word..has no value in the world of politics..Doesnt it seems ridiculous to u?
Again, as for Miss India, I think ladies seated and men standing appears better than some men seated and some ladies standing, no? Or maybe I am just a bit chivalrous :D

You are chivalrous and I like that, but Femina People are always demanding equality even at the cost of family and so are the many girls, I am questioning them:)
Have a very nice holiday!!

atleast they don't go around slaughtering innocent Muslims....

here You are using very strong words, and these words may incite communal riots:):) do u remembr the people burnt in the train alive?.

Vetrimagal: WElcome here!
Language maynot be a problem, as we have certain regional times also, plus they must try to cover all the constituencies.
But i dont think they will ever consider it even, as theyare not serious about their social responsibilities.

Amrita:.....that seating arrangement comment was for the girls who shout for equality..LITERALLY:)---though even then its only rights for them without any duties,, not for you and me:)

I always say that certain traditions have been going on for years together and look nice also, and we shouldnt try to change each and everything just because we dont like it or it doesnt suit us.

I had a real nice trip to Hyderabad:)

Shilpa: No Shilpa we dont have a choice to cut off... that will be a passive reaction, wherease we need to be proactive:).

Sunder: I mean to say that varun has given an hyper speech..ok..but people are also over reacting.
