charity

I am an ardent reader of Infinithoughts and it said in its last issue something about charity which made me think. Charity for the sake of charity never does any good to anyone one. There are many people who just want to give something.may be old clothes or money and want to get away with that. They satisfy their conscience that they have done their part and have nothing to worry now. But it is something for nothing and it never helps anybody. If we are really interested in doing good, we must give something for something. Like if we donate money to a child for study we need to see that he/she performs, only then they should be eligible..Wherever we give anything we must see that it is used properly and it is getting results. We must make the takers accountable...then only the situation can improve..
What do you think?

The worst form of charity is one that builds ego -- making a show it and them blaming or looking down upon everyone else. Without humility, all this is futile.

I believe charity must be done without any expectation. People generally do charity to get something in return, like they believe if they helped somebody, it would give them lot of punya, or at some point in their life if they are in a bad position, somebody would come and help them etc, etc
When charity is done with expectation it is no longer a charity , for it then becomes a business deal.
So if one wants to give some thing to somebody, one should just give with genuine love and concern for that person and forget about it. It should be considered an account with no returns. Well this is my view.

Agree with all the comments.. charity should be done with no expectation.. what the right hand does, the left hand should not know. But most of the times, people join religious or charity groups only to get a good name in the society. But then, at least some money is being channeled so one cannot do away with it too.

I feel if one can improve the life of one's maid, helper, driver and their families, it is better than putting money in a temple hundi.
