Whenever i talk to someone, i come across a couple who is either divorcing or sorting out their misunderstandings..And i feel sad for this state because majority of the times the problems arise because of the self centred nature today....
One highly talented, beautiful and accomplished girl gets married to another equally handsome well established boy from a rich family and within a year, they live separately...why....girl finds the boy nitpicking, not impressive in social gatherings,immature....And the boy finds the girl too high handed and immersed in her job..
Two people who are highly successful in their professions, are a failure in personal life...why couldnt they give the same commitment to their marriage?
A girl gets married into a rich family and after six months gets away lot of money and then accuses the inlaws and relatives of demanding dowry..whereas all this is false......
Another set of parents..knowingly marry their daughter to a mentally retarded man only because he is rich. After marriage the girl enjoys the luxury of money but takes out her frustration at her MIL and treats her cruelly ...arent her parents more responsible for her predicament?
And there are many girls who marry into business families to enjoy the perks of wealth but dont want to take the other obligations of such families....
And there are many boys too who want the girls to totally sever there ties with their parents....
All these problems are there because we are becoming a directionless society, where self satisfaction and happiness is the only thing important...Its time we learned to restrain ourselves, and think of others too...

Self gratification is a major issue, but there are many complex issues for the layered problems faced by married couples today.
"Love thrives by giving and forgiving. Ego thrives by getting and forgetting".
"Love sees Unity. Ego sees separation"
its very true... Divorces are very popular these days..as expectations of partners are high and most of the time people forget their own flaws and jus try to find in others..
on other hand we cannot make everybody happy.. so overall a balance in required in all relationships!
Yes, I agree that people in general have become self-centred.
Satisfaction and wealth should not be measured only in material things, I feel.
And in any case what is the use of only getting what we want? Will it not increase our happiness if the people around us- our family, friends or co-workers- are happy too?
A very insightful post. Wish people took relationships as seriously as they take their career and gave it their 100% too.
Add selfishness to the list. For the parents who got the girl married to a mentally challenged man were that and more. And divorce need not be a dirty word either, if the situation is dire and needs to be gone through. Only when trivial issues which can be solved by some give and take and compromises are the cause for split, should it be condemned. But yes, I agree that today tolerance levels are at an all time low and selfishness is the driving force.

Very thought-provoking.
Think we have become a materialistic society. Wealth has increased and the youngsters rather enjoy it rather than sacrifice. Marriage is nothing but a relationship based on mutual trust and love. It cannot be based on money alone.
No patience mam, no respect for each other.. and basically no time to make things work or change
Bikram's
Rachna: yes I know its a complex issue, but the core problem is selfishness, if we remove that lot many problems can be solved.
uptake: you are always so right, are you able to run your life that way:)
Harman: yes we cant make evryone hapy, but just that one person..our spouse, we need to make him/her happy..
Manju: actually with age most of the people..specially the educated ones realise the value of real happiness and morality, but then it is too late to rectify anything..thats why i say that we need to bring up our children with lot of discipline.
Neha: exactly neha...job brings only material happiness, whereas marriage brings long lasting happiness.
Zephyr: No divorce is not a bad word, but it shouldnt be the first choice..Only 10 % of divorces are taken for real issues, rest all is about trivial issues and egoes.
Reflections: How are you nancy? seeing you after a long time>..
Happy Kitten:today marriage has become just another commodity to be bought..and if not liked trown away.
Bikram: you are right Bikram..no time today for marriage, because time is spent in either making money or spending it..
I think one cant be on the judgment seat analyzing the majority cases, I guess, like each marriage is different, each case of divorce has its reasons , which maybe reasonable or illogical that’s different thing. But at the end of the day, it s the spouse who should take the decision. There is no point in dragging and bragging…
and yes like you said, in some cases, or most cases, reason are materialistic…
so true...
Deep: Its not judgement, its my observation..and if we can learn a lesson from other's mistakes, its better, rather than making our own..
Ashok: Thanks!
