means to an end

I have been thinking for a long time, what is right?
To reach the aim or target , by any ways or
The ways we follow are more important than the end?
Some people say-there is no harm in a little twisting here or there if our intentions are good and our ultimate aim is for the benefit of may be society or country or mankind whatever it is.But then like they say--chori to chori ha--one cant give it any other name.and it will always leave its footprints on your mind.
Personally i think means are more important than the end, we must choose the right path and it will always take us to a good end,may not be the pinnacle of success , but the satisfaction of the journey will certainly outweigh that.Journey is more important than the manjil(end).Intentions only make us feel good......like may times we say..but my intentions were not like that ,so what.., but they dont affect anything else, its only our deed which bring results. and any unfair mean for a righteous cause also will certainly somewhere bring unfairness.
What do you think?

hmm...makes me think...i guess both the means and the end has to be good. If either one is not, it will land up being bad. It's like 2 pluses will make a plus, but 1plus and 1 minus will always give minus.

If the means are good, end will not be bad, but may be not to our liking:)

And I agree.

definitely the means matters..i think thats wat even bagavadgeetha says.. do ur job don expect the result.. the pleasure of doin it is higher than the success.. even if u fail if u did it well n sincerely u ll def b satisfied..

so i go for means.. i really don care for the end.. god knows i mite not even live to c the end.. so y not enjoy the means.. this helps to take both joy n sorrow, success and failure equally .. so u wont get too proud of success and too depressed of failure..

In the world tht v live in today, righteousness, honesty and integrity have lost meaning..rules r broken, norms r flouted, ppl go to any extent to fulfil their dreams..

I agree tht the right part is taxing and challenging but ultimately u win..ur peace of mind is not at stake!

nice thoughts, i would say it also depends on what the end is...

The path or means is very important if you need to sleep well!!..Crooked paths may result in reaching destination, perhaps faster..but in the end it may not be worth it !

I too think that the means are much more important than the end. Choosing the wrong means will often make the enjoyment of the end that much lesser.

mixed feelings. I guess mostly the end really matters to me :) to be very honest, I may have been way too selfish at times in order to reach the end of the goal. For me, I guess i`m willing to twist the means a lil bit, as long as it doesnt affect people outrageously. :) bad, bad girl huh? :)

it s tough, i think that the means is more important than the end itself, but it s really unfair when u work so hard on the means and at the end it is the one who used twisted things who got it :( So it made me think a lot too... what should i do, most of the time I give up and prefer to leave the company if they re not capable to see my good means :( too bad for them :)

of course the journey is more important...cos in the end, we are all dead....:-)
ok but to be a little less obscure, i would say don't take short cuts to achieve your targets... do the right things, have a clear conscience and you would realize that even if you fail, you would still walk with your head held high...there would be some sense of pride cos you walked the right path...
to me, a clear conscience is more important than fulfilled ambitions... but i guess most people out there would differ with that...

Hobo: I am very happy to see that most of the people want to go the right way,it makes me feel so jubilant.

Sansmerci: way to go girl:) u r right on the track, keep the faith:)

Swats: people are loosing the ethics, but why should we follow them, why not follow our own conscience?
The journey may be challenging, but tabhi to jeene ka maja ha:)

Monika: yeah, thats what I was pondering...if the end is noble, even then is it right to follow any means? what i feel is that if the means are not good, the end will also loose it nobility.

Compassion unlimited: Crooked path may lead to the destination earlier.....I am not sure of that even.sometimes what we percieve as good or destination doesnt turn out to be the same in reality.
Long ago I read an story of MOnkey"s Paw,--whosoever has it, can get his wishes fulfilled, but always with some negative fall out like---the hero wishes for 200 dollars and he gets it but as in insurance payement after the death of his son.
And thats the way I feel about bad means.

Jayshree: yeah u r right:), one looses the enjoyment of journey also.

Piper: No dear, U cant be a bad girl, must be some cuircumstances which make u think that means are not important, and somewhere deep inside u also know the truth, as u say--it doesnt hurt someone......but u see sometimes repercussions are not direct and we dont seem to see that, but repercussionsa re always there.

cess: it is always said that Life is not fair but good:)I always feel that even if somebody on the earth doesnt see and realise what I do, there is someone above...God..who always watches and rewards..may be some other way:)

Rebel: so once again u prove that u r a youngman with head over ur shoulders and feet firmly in the ground:) U r so right, keep the faith:)

Cess:oh Dear, I am so sorry, I was not in the city and didnt take my laptop, so... now i am back to the net:)

Sansmerci; I went to Hyd for a week:), will chk ur new blog and all other postings in this week:)

Renu,

Yes the means are definitely more important than the end result. For another reason. See. none of live in isolation. What we do , and how we go about it, makes an impression on younger folks, say, within a family and even friends.

So if we worry about using the correct means, regardless of the end, we are actually teaching the newer generation something. Using unscrupolous means to grab a desired end result is certainly a guaranteed way to bring up a confused generation....

Renu said...

Ugich Konitari: I fully agree with you and the response i got from the younger generation makes me feel so satisfied that the future of our country is safe, they are on the right track.
I always believe that this whole universe is conmnected, every action of everybody has a reaction and impacts this chain.

Hi Renu,
I agree with you. There is a popular justification people give that means justify the ends, which I personally think is wrong.
Keep them coming.
Cheers,
Salil

A good "makes one analyse their actions" post!!!!!!

I toally agree with you. Since i have a child, it has become even more important to me. A beautiful thought!

Renu said...

Salil: Nothing can justify anything wrong, thats the way i feel:)

Reflections: Thanks! these oideas keep churning in my mind.

PG: yes, as Ugich Konitari said..we teach our children through our actions, so its all the more important that our action are right and good:)
